Celtic have already announced one signing, with Kieran Tierney returning as a free agent this summer after spending six years at Arsenal. Now, it looks like the club are inching closer to another addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad. The Hoops have been linked with four different wingers over the past couple of days but a favourite is quickly emerging.
Last night, news broke out that Nordsjaelland had given Celtic permission to talk to Benjamin Nygren's representatives. Now, things appear to have moved forward.
As reported Sacha Tavolieri, Anderlecht now consider that Nygren's going to Celtic. After talks with his representatives, the Belgian club understood that he is set to choose the Scottish club over them. The Swedish international is now expected to complete his move to the Premiership.
Of course, the transfer market is always fluid and things can change very quickly. But as things stand, if everything goes according to plan, Nygren should be a Celtic player soon.
23-year-old international winger decides to join Celtic
Nygren seems to have the highest pedigree out of all the wingers that Celtic have been linked with this summer. He is a full Swedish international and is coming off a season in which he had 20 goal contributions in 32 appearances for Nordsjaelland.
That being said, one cannot overlook his past failures either. He had joined Genk earlier in his career but it did not work out for him there.
That is not rare for a youngster though. Often, things might not work out, but it looks like Nygren has learned from that experience and developed into a better player because of it.
Of course, for now, it looks like Nygren is on his way to Celtic. Does that mean that Celtic will drop their interest in the likes of Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sondre Orjasaeter? We will find out soon enough.
