Celtic have not had the greatest campaign till now. They were eliminated early from the Scottish League Cup and while they do lead the Premiership, their performances and results have been somewhat inconsistent. Almost half a season on, it feels like the Hoops are still finding their feet under the management of Brendan Rodgers and have never really gotten out of second gear.

There have been some players who have stood out amidst this though. Liam Scales has surprised a lot of people since coming into the first-team fold and establishing himself as a starter.

Not many people would have expected Scales to be a starter at the start of the season. He seemed like someone who was more likely to leave the club than to feature.

That kind of form has caught the eye of teams around Europe. As reported by Football Scotland, Anderlecht scouts have watched Scales extensively and they are considering making an offer for him in the January transfer window.

Scales is entering the final 18 months of his contract at Celtic Park. The club have handed out new deals left, right and centre this season so far. They must make sure that the Republic of Ireland international extends his stay at Parkhead as well.

Scales has become a key player in Rodgers’ team. He has kept the likes of Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke out of the starting XI. Letting him go at this point would be a step in the backward direction.

Of course, we all know that Celtic are pretty much always open to letting players go as long as the right offer is on the table. It just does not feel like Anderlecht would put in that kind of a transfer bid based on Scales’ form over the last few months though.
