As Celtic fans hope for more quality players arriving there could be a problem with others heading for the exit door. It seems pretty clear that Brendan Rodgers wants to make the size of the squad more manageable over the next couple of transfer windows and departures are expected. But there is a risk of the wrong footballers moving out.
Of course, that is a subjective term. Rodgers will have his views on who can leave and who needs to remain in his squad. When it comes to one player in particular, it has become difficult for fans to judge where he fits in.
Rocco Vata definitely has potential as a centre-forward, he is proving that with the B team and with the Republic of Ireland U19s as well. He has only had limited opportunities with the Celtic first team so far though.
Vata has made just four senior team appearances for the Hoops. None of them have come under the management of Rodgers.
Serie A club want to sign Celtic player amid contract worry
Vata’s contract at the club is up at the end of the season, so this is quite a significant time for the player. There are constant rumours of other clubs being interested in signing him and understandably so, considering his form at the youth levels.
According to the Daily Record, Frosinone are the latest Italian side to join the race to sign Vata. They watched the youngster when he was away with Ireland under-19s and were impressed. Teams like Torino and Nottingham Forest are believed to hold an interest as well.
It is curious why Vata has not featured for Celtic this season so far despite his great form for the B Team. Does Rodgers not believe that he is ready to play for the senior team? Or is it more to do with his contract situation? Let’s see what happens.
