Sheffield United legend says he is ready to join Celtic
Celtic have tried to sign a lot of players from England over the years which have not really worked out. The club have continued to enjoy success over the years though and even though the Scottish Premiership might not be the most popular league in the world, there is always the attraction of playing for trophies and in front of 60,000 supporters every week.
It looks like Billy Sharp is someone who Celtic had tried to sign in the past. But a move did not end up materialising.
Sharp came through the ranks at Sheffield United and spent three separate stints there at the senior level. He would go on to spend almost his entire playing career in England before moving to LA Galaxy earlier this year.
Sharp’s time at LA Galaxy was not long but he did show that even at 37 years of age, he is still capable of finding the back of the net. Despite that, it almost feels impossible that Celtic would try to sign him again, even on a short-term deal.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Sharp said while speaking on No Tippy Tappy Football:
"“He [Lennon] was ringing me while I was in London. Maybe that’s the one that I should have probably gone. But I think my heart took over again with Sheffield United, the loyalty to Sheffield United – paid the price! Celtic was probably the one that people probably don’t know about.“I think that that one’s gone now but if they’re interested, I’m here. I’m ready. And they’ve got fans back in the stadium!”"
In his prime, someone like Sharp could have been an excellent striker for Celtic. But he is 37 now and chances of the Hoops considering a move for him at this stage of his career are slim to none.
The Scottish champions could do with a striker in the upcoming January transfer window though. There is quite a bit of uncertainty about whether Kyogo and Oh Hyeon-gyu will be available early next year with the AFC Asian Cup coming up.
If both are selected by their respective national teams, it would leave Celtic without a proper striker. So, it would be no surprise if they tried to bring in a centre-forward. Do not expect that to be Sharp though.
