Celtic are expected to bring in a striker in January. Kyogo has been performing steadily even if not scoring at the rate that he was last season. On the other hand, following a slow start to the season under the management of Brendan Rodgers, Oh Hyeon-gyu is building up some momentum as well and has scored three goals so far.

The upcoming AFC Asian Cup could prove to be a curveball for Celtic though. There is a possibility that Kyogo and Oh could be selected to represent their national teams.

If that turned out to be the case, it would leave Rodgers without a striker to pick in his starting XI. So, the expectation is that the Hoops will add to their ranks going forward in the January transfer window.

The club have been linked with Sydney van Hooijdonk of Bologna lately. But it looks like Mathias Kvistgaarden, whom the Hoops failed to sign in the summer transfer window, is still on their radar.

Celtic readying improved offer for £7.5 million striker

As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have indicated to Brondby that they are planning to improve their offer for Kvistgaarden in January. But the Hoops now face competition from the Bundesliga.

Celtic were believed to be looking to sign the Danish striker in the summer for a transfer fee around £4 million. But Brondby are believed to rate him at almost twice that figure at £7.5 million.

It remains to be seen if Celtic make an offer of that magnitude in order to sign the young striker in January. If they do, it would immediately make him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

One has to wonder whether Kvistgaarden has put up the numbers to justify that kind of a transfer offer. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this season so far.
