Celtic have spread their scouting network further and wider in recent years, especially following Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as manager in 2021. The Australian has left since then to join Tottenham Hotspur, but the Hoops have remained true to their transfer policy. And they are now being linked with a South African centre-forward.

Celtic certainly need to add to their options up top. The club have Kyogo and Oh Hyeon-gyu. The Japanese forward has continued to deliver the goods for the Hoops, while the South Korean international has impressed with his recent performances as well.

But just two strikers might not be enough considering Celtic’s schedule. They are widely expected to strengthen their ranks in January.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are eyeing South African wonderkid Luke Baartman. He currently plays for Cape Town Spurs. The 17-year-old striker is also wanted by English clubs including Leeds United.

Baartman recently became the second youngest player to score in the history of the South Africa top flight. It is not hard to see why he is drawing so much interest already.

Suggestions are that Celtic do not view him as a player who could come in and immediately become a part of the first-team picture. But, the club recognise the potential that the South African talent possesses.

It will be interesting to see if the club do end up making a move for him in the upcoming January transfer window. And if they do, would he be the only striker they sign?

The club might need to bring in a striker capable of leading the line from the get-go. The AFC Asian Cup is set to start in January. It is very possible that both Kyogo and Oh could be selected by their respective national teams. If that happens, it would leave Brendan Rodgers’ side without a centre-forward.
