Celtic make first enquiries for £4 million-rated striker

Celtic might need to sign a striker in the upcoming January transfer window. Kyogo remains the first-choice and the Japanese forward continues to deliver the goods up top for the Hoops. On the other hand, after a slow start under the management of Brendan Rodgers, Oh Hyeon-gyu is starting to find the back of the net as well.

But the AFC Asian Cup will be starting in January. It is very possible that both Kyogo and Oh could be selected by their respective national teams. If that happens, it would leave the Hoops without a single striker.

Naturally, Celtic have been linked with a few strikers in recent weeks. Interestingly, it looks like the club are already laying the foundations of a potential move.

As reported by Corriere di Bologna (via Daily Record), Thiago Motta is ready to move Sydney van Hooijdonk in the winter window on loan. Celtic are said to have made their “first enquiries” over bringing in the Dutch striker.

Van Hooijdonk’s father, Pierre, played for Celtic in the mid-90s. In fact, he even had a 32-goal season for the Hoops.

The 23-year-old himself has proven himself in the Eredivisie. He spent last season on loan at Heerenveen and scored 19 goals in all competitions.

Things have been tougher for Van Hooijdonk at Bologna though. He has struggled to get into the playing XI and now seems to be available on loan. Thus, he could almost be the perfect target for the Hoops under the current circumstances.

Perhaps they can get an option to buy included in a potential loan deal as well. Van Hooijdonk is certainly a player with a ton of potential, who could bring something different to the table for Celtic. Let’s see if a move ends up happening in January.
