It is no secret that Celtic need to sign a goalkeeper in the not too distant future. The club currently have Joe Hart as their number one between the posts. To be fair to him, the Englishman has done a very decent job since arriving in the summer of 2021. But at the same time, it might be time to look towards the future.
Hart is going to turn 37 years of age before this season comes to an end. Also, many have questioned his performances in recent times as well as his fit in this system.
It is more than likely that Celtic would sign a goalkeeper soon. And one player they have been linked with for a while is Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid.
Lunin’s current deal with Real Madrid is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Also, there have been suggestions that he is looking for a club where he can regular football.
Major Lunin update amid Celtic transfer links
Lunin has never gotten the chance to play regular football at Real Madrid on a consistent basis. He has always been behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order. And when he got injured, the club signed Kepa on loan from Chelsea and made him the number one between the posts. Thus, the expectation has been for the 24-year-old to leave next summer.
But as reported by El Debate, Lunin’s good performances when he has been a starter have changed Real Madrid’s perception of the future. In each match, the goalkeeper demonstrates a confidence that he did not show before.
Thus, it is possible that the club could consider offering him a contract extension. At the same time though, would they be able to convince him to stay?
Despite his good form, it is unlikely that Lunin would be the Real Madrid starter for the long term. Especially when Courtois returns from his injury.
