Celtic are heading towards an interesting January transfer window for sure. It is clear that the club need to make some additions to Brendan Rodgers’ squad and ideally, they should bring in a few more experienced and established names to Parkhead. On the other hand, there is also the need to let some leave.

At this point in time, Celtic appear to have too big of a roster and there are a number of players who are not getting enough chances to play. It is important that it remains manageable.

Amidst all this, one player could be set to return from his spell out on loan. That is none other than Yosuke Ideguchi, who has spent the year at Avispa Fukuoka and been impressive.

It is uncertain where his long-term future lies though. As reported by the Daily Record, the Japanese player is set to return to Parkhead in January and he admitted to Nordot that he is uncertain whether he has done enough to get a second chance, as he said:

"“I don’t know. I’m looking forward to it after the end of the season.”"

Ideguchi was signed by the club in early 2022 alongside Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda. While those two have gone on to establish themselves as key players for Celtic, the same cannot be said for the 27-year-old.

Ideguchi struggled for playing time at Celtic under the management of Ange Postecoglou. He was also not helped by the fact that he suffered a few injuries while at Parkhead. Of course, this was not the first time that he failed to impress in Europe.

Ideguchi had previously had a spell at Leeds United but left before playing a single game for the English club. So, many feel that he should make a return to the J-League on a permanent basis. Let’s see what happens.
