Some of Celtic’s recent transfer activity has come under the microscope over the past few days following the 6-0 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid away in the Spanish capital, a result which pretty much ended the Hoops’ hopes of finishing anywhere but bottom of their group. Unsurprisingly, questions are being asked about some of the decisions that were made in the summer.

Celtic decided to pursue a number of ‘project’ signings over the summer rather than bringing in experienced and established players who could have made a difference in the Champions League. The results are now in front of us and a lot of people’s worst fears have come true.

The number of the summer signings do not look ready to play at the Champions League level. And some not in the domestic competitions.

The two best examples of this are Marco Tilio and Kwon Hyeok-kyu. Neither has played a single minute of football this season till now.

Sooner or later, a decision will have to be made regarding the situations of Tilio and Kwon. They cannot just continue not playing one month after another.

Tilio arrived with a big reputation and was compared to Phil Foden for his style of play. Perhaps he could do with a long spell at a club where he will get the opportunity to play consistent football and adjust to the European game. There is a chance he could get some minutes at Parkhead over the coming weeks though, with Daizen Maeda out injured.

The same can be said about Kwon, whose chances of breaking into the team seem slim to none at the moment. As a result, the midfielder needs to be sent out on loan.

It might be a bit too early to give up on them completely. But the two summer signings need to play regular football.
