Celtic have a number of top talents in their ranks right now. We already saw Jota leave the club in the summer for a Scottish record £25 million transfer fee. And there are quite a few on the current roster who might bring in an even bigger figure if or when they head out of Parkhead in the future. Let’s see how things play out.

The one most likely to fetch such a transfer fee is none other than Matt O’Riley. The Danish youth international has been in the form of his life this season.

O’Riley was a very good player even under the management of Ange Postecoglou. But since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers in the summer, he seems to have taken his game up a few levels at least and improved in almost every aspect.

O’Riley has been Celtic’s best player this season till now. And it looks like one Fulham man has likened him to Frank Lampard, one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the game.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Stuart Pearce said on talkSPORT (07/11/23 at 8:20 pm):

"“Steve Wigley, I rung him today actually and just sounded him out about O’Riley.“He was very impressed. He likened him to Frank Lampard, to be fair.“Not someone who is blessed with real blinding pace, but can get up and down continually. Eye for a goal. He gave him a sound recommendation. Suggesting that he will end up in the Premier League at some stage.”"

Lampard is one of the best players in Premier League history. So, if O’Riley is able to get to even half his level, he will be a terrific player for Celtic.

Celtic fans will be hoping that he remains at Parkhead for the foreseeable future. The Hoops needs players of his calibre to stay on if they are to make any real progress in Europe. But at the same time, it only seems like a matter of time before he departs the club.

Several Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and more have been linked with O’Riley in recent times. That should come as no surprise considering his form this season.
