Celtic fans were left very disappointed by the result against Atletico Madrid away at the Metropolitano Stadium. Losing a game to Diego Simeone’s side is fine. They are one of the best teams in Europe. But 6-0 is pretty unacceptable, even though the Hoops were down to ten men after Daizen Maeda was shown a questionable red card in the first half.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will need to go back to the drawing board after this result. Their hopes of making it out of the group are as good as over. Even finishing third looks nearly impossible. At this point, winning a game has to be viewed as the target.

Another incident on the night that drew criticism from the Celtic supporters was Simeone appearing to not shake Rodgers’ hands after the full-time whistle. Instead, it looked like the Atletico Madrid manager headed straight down the tunnel.

It did not go down too well with Ally McCoist. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Rangers legend said while speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast (08/11/23 at 6:10 am):

"“The other week not shaking hands with Brendan was embarrassing. I don’t know what happened last night, but I just saw him run straight up the tunnel again like he isn’t going to shake hands with anybody again.”"

Of course, Simeone did not make any new fans with his half-hearted handshake with Rodgers after the game at Celtic Park. And his post-match actions have drawn criticism once again.

Now, to be honest, Simeone not shaking Rodgers’ hand will be near the bottom of the list of things that Celtic are worried about right now. Their inability to get any results in the Champions League has to be near the top.

Celtic did not win a single game in the competition last season. And it looks like things could end in that same fashion this time around as well. They have two games left, at home against Feyenoord and away against Lazio. Let’s hope they can get at least one victory out of those two.
