Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world. No matter what the Rangers fans feel about the club, even they will admit that. It is often hard to understand the size of the Hoops from the outside though simply because of the fact that the Scottish Premiership is not one of the most popular in the game.

But those who have witnessed life at Celtic know what it is. Even those like Joe Hart, who have played at the very highest level for both club and country.

Hart was a legend at Manchester City. He played for several other Premier League clubs. And he made a lot of appearances for the England national team as well.

But it looks like the size of Celtic as a football club managed to surprise even a player of his pedigree and experience. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Barry Ferguson said on Go Radio:

"“I spoke to him when I was at Alloa and he was loving it. You know what it’s like when you go down to England. They are always asking ‘what are the Celtic and Rangers games like’. They are huge. ‘Right, good one’. This and that. Until they actually come up, that’s what Joe said. He couldn’t believe the size of Celtic. People don’t understand when they are down in England. I think he is a top goalkeeper, I do.”"

By the time Hart joined Celtic, many believed that his time as a first-team goalkeeper was long finished. He was the cover option at Tottenham Hotspur at that point in time and was believed to have been signed for a transfer fee of around £1 million.

A lot of Celtic fans raised their eyebrows at the move. But over time, Hart has been able to prove a lot of people wrong.

Yes, he might not have been the best goalkeeper in the world during his time at Parkhead but he has certainly done his job. He has been good between the posts and one of the leaders in what is a largely inexperienced squad.

Set to turn 37 years of age before the season comes to an end, it is time for Celtic to start looking for a long-term replacement for Hart. They have been linked with names like Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid and Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool.
