David Turnbull is certainly one of the players who has been helped by the arrival of Brendan Rodgers following Ange Postecoglou’s move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Under the management of the Australian, the midfielder was barely getting regular playing time. And while he still might not be a starter for Celtic when everybody is fit and available, he certainly has an important place in the squad.

One thing Turnbull brings to the table, which not many other Celtic midfielders do, is the ability to consistently score. He already has scored five goals this season.

That’s as many as he managed in the entirety of last season. And following his good run of form, there has been talk of handing him a contract extension, with his current deal set to run out in the summer of 2024.

The club are believed to be keen on keeping Turnbull at the club. The ball is in the Scottish midfielder’s court though. After all, he has had an up-and-down time since joining Celtic in the summer of 2020 and might possibly have doubts about his long-term place in the team.

Turnbull breaks silence on Celtic contract talks

Turnbull appears to be keeping his cards to his chest regarding the contract situation and focussing on his duties on the pitch. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic midfielder said:

"“To be honest, I just leave it to the club and those that are involved with it.“I just try to do my talking on the pitch and try to focus on my own game and not focus on that too much at the moment. You can overthink things in life and in football, especially.“It is just about focusing on each game at a time. We have a lot of games coming up thick and fast, so just focusing on all of them. Once you get into the team, you need to take your chance. There is a lot of competition for places, but once you are in there, you need to nail down your spot and do your best for the team. I just try to do that in every game that I am in.”"

It will be very interesting to see if Turnbull does end up signing an extension with Celtic. The club have been very active in recent times when it comes to handing out new deals.

The likes of Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor, Daizen Maeda and a few others put pen to paper not too long ago. Could Turnbull be the next to join that list and commit his long-term future to Celtic? Time shall tell.
