It is no secret that Celtic could do with another striker. Of course, Kyogo is the first-choice and deservedly so. Since arriving in the summer of 2021, the Japanese forward has been fantastic for the Hoops. And Oh Hyeon-gyu is finally showing positive signs after an underwhelming start to the season.

Despite that, just two options up top is not enough. Especially if someone like Kyogo ends up suffering an injury. One has to also consider the upcoming AFC Asian Cup, set to be played in early 2024. Many Celtic players are expected to play in it.

Thus, it is important that Celtic sign another striker in January. One player they were heavily linked with in the summer is Mathias Kvisgaarden of Brondby.

The £4 million-rated Danish youth international remained at Brondby. But it looks like he is considering his options for the future. That should put Celtic on transfer alert.

As reported by Football Scotland, Kvistgaarden said Tipsbladet:

"“I’m, of course, thinking about the future, but right now, I’m keeping my focus on the present. We have many matches left in this season, but the goal is if I can produce as many good performances as possible, which will be able to help me in terms of my own future.“There’s no doubt that it’s interesting. Big clubs were supposedly present there (Brøndby´s match against FC Nordsjælland). I would be lying if I said otherwise. But I don’t want to dwell too much on such matters because I’m afraid it could divert my focus from the game on the field.“It’s hard to say which league suits me best. It varies depending on what people think and how they see me as a player in terms of where I belong. The Bundesliga is a great league, and it could be a fun place to play. But it also depends on the specific team and how they play.”"

It remains to be seen if Celtic end up making a move for Kvistgaarden in January. But then again, he would be considered one of the many ‘project’ signings that the club have made in recent times.

They could do with some more proven quality and established names though. Someone they could bring in and be confident that he could deliver the goods from the off. Because that is the kind of player they will need if Kyogo does end up leaving for the AFC Asian Cup in early 2024. It remains to be seen what kind of a move the Hoops make.

Of course, Kvistgaarden is not the only striker Celtic have been linked with in recent times. Thus, the January transfer window could get interesting for the Hoops, with the club in need of some reinforcements while several players could leave.
