Celtic have been very active in recent times when it comes to identifying and signing young talents from all over the world. Also, they have signed quite a few centre-backs lately. In fact, a lot of fans feel that the club have too many options in that area of the pitch. The picture could look very different though if some head for the exit door in January.

Amidst all this, Celtic have been linked with another centre-back. He has been impressing in the Swedish top flight this season.

It is Nathaniel Adjei of Hammarby, who is also a Ghana youth international. The 21-year-old has been making an impression this season and the Rangers are rumoured to hold an interest in him as well.

The Scottish giants are not the only ones to be keeping an eye on Adjei though. He is also wanted by one of the English Championships in-form teams in the form of Preston North End.

Preston North End in talks to sign Celtic-linked player

Preston North End currently sit at sixth in the Championship table. That is impressive for a team that has finished in the top 10 of the competition just twice in the previous eight seasons and never higher than seventh.

As reported by Football League World, Alan Nixon wrote via Patreon:

"“North End are in talks to sign Adjei on loan in January with a view to a permanent transfer down the line.”"

But there is already a potential hurdle in any deal for Adjei as he wrote:

"“However the Swedish club are looking for £3m for Adjei, 21, which is more than Preston are willing to pay.”"

One should never say never in football. But to be very honest, it is hard to imagine that Celtic would try to sign another centre-back anytime soon.

They signed Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki for a combined €8.5 million over the summer transfer window and both of them look set to struggle for consistent playing time. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales appear to have established themselves as regular starters in Brendan Rodgers’ side. The last thing they need is to add another centre-back into the mix.
