Celtic signed a number of great players during the time of Ange Postecoglou in the Parkhead hot seat. The likes of Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kyogo and several others continue to enjoy key roles in the team despite the Australian’s summer exit to join Tottenham Hotspur.

But that does not mean that every signing from the Postecoglou era proved to be a success story. There were quite a few which did not work out as well.

One that falls under that category was the signing of Yosuke Ideguchi. The Japanese midfielder was signed for a transfer fee believed to be around £1 million from Gamba Osaka.

It was a move based on the early potential that he had shown in his career. While Postecoglou was successful in bringing the best out of players like Jota and Carter-Vickers, he could not do the same with Ideguchi though and he found himself out of the first-team picture. One has to point out that injury problems did not help him either.

Ideguchi is currently out on loan at J-League side Avispa Fukuoka. And he has actually done quite well there.

Ideguchi is a regular starter for the Japanese side at the moment. As reported by Nikkan Sports, Avispa Fukuoka is aiming to sign Ideguchi on a permanent transfer.

Of course, such a move might be a win-win situation for all parties involved. It is hard to see Ideguchi having a future at Celtic Park despite his good form out on loan.

Ideguchi has struggled the two times he made a move to Europe. Earlier in his career, Leeds United had signed him. He did not make a single appearance for the English club and played only a handful of times for Celtic. Perhaps staying in the J-League is best for him.
