Robert Snodgrass explains why he wore Celtic kit to Rangers training
There is very little left to be said about the rivalry that Celtic and the Rangers share. It is one of the most historic and intense in all of football. Of course, the Hoops have been the much better team lately while the Ibrox club continue to keep up with the Parkhead side. It remains to be seen if Philippe Clement is able to turn around their fortunes.
Over the years, very few players have represented both Celtic and the Rangers. The modern famous recent example is Kenny Miller.
There is one player though who seems to have worn his Celtic shorts while training with the Rangers during his youth days. That is none other than former Scotland international, Robert Snodgrass.
Snodgrass played for the Rangers during his youth days but ultimately ended up at Livingston, for whom he would make his senior debut. He went on to have a very good career and represented clubs like Aston Villa, Leeds United, West Ham United, Norwich City and several others. He was also a full Scottish international.
Snodgrass explains why he wore Celtic kit to Rangers training
As reported by the Daily Record, Snodgrass said while talking to talkSPORT host Alan Brazil:
"“When I went to Rangers, the actual pro-team, I used to wear the old Celtic bumblebee shorts under the Rangers shorts.“It wasn’t a dig at them – it was just the only shorts I had – they were my brothers shorts. Looking back it was a good time getting into Rangers, Celtic, Hamilton and other teams.”"
Interestingly, Snodgrass has been linked with a move to Celtic several times during the course of his career. In fact, there were reports back in the summer of 2020, while he was at West Ham United, that the Hoops had put in a loan offer for him.
A move to Parkhead never ended up materialising. Snodgrass did make a return to Scotland though, playing for Hearts most recently. He is without a club at the moment, having left Tynecastle Park over the summer and it is hard to imagine him ever ending up at Celtic at this stage of his career.
