There are some areas most Celtic fans agree that the club need to improve in. One of them is goalkeeper. Joe Hart has been the number one since arriving in the summer of 2021. There was talk in the previous transfer window that the Hoops could bring in a new first-choice between the posts and were even linked with Dominik Livakovic for a while. But nothing materialised.

Thus, Hart remains the number one and it is expected to remain that way for the rest of the season. Scott Bain seems to be his cover option, with Benjamin Siegrist further behind in the pecking order.

Hart is 36 years of age though and will be 37 before the end of this season. Yet, there have been rumours that the club are in talks with the Englishman over an extension.

On the other hand, there have also been rumours linking Celtic with Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool and Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid. What does the future actually hold for the club between the posts?

Celtic urged to make double deal involving Joe Hart

Celtic have been urged to hand Hart a new deal while also bringing in a new number one. As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said:

"“I would think they would [extend his contract]. I would want to see him, but I think we need a number one. I would not have a problem with that one little bit.“For me, having Benjamin Siegrist or Scott Bain, I don’t get that. They’ll come in and do a job. Siegrist is injured too much, he’s never fit. Bain, his confidence might be a bit down.“I just think we need a number one. We can keep Joe Hart for another year.”"

It would make sense to keep someone as experienced as Hart around, even if he is not the number one anymore. Behind the scenes, he is a leader and the youngsters can certainly do with his experience to rely on. Players like Kelleher and Lunin would benefit from working with the former England number one. At the same time, would he be happy to sit on the bench?

Hart will know that he has a limited number of years left in the tank. Would he want to spend them sitting on the bench or being the number one somewhere else?

More. Celtic finally show something they had not since Ange Postecoglou left. light
