It has taken Ange Postecoglou no time to become a household name in the Premier League. He left Celtic in the summer in order to join Tottenham Hotspur. The club were expected to struggle this season, with talisman Harry Kane leaving for Bayern Munich. Instead, they are thriving and currently sit top of the table, two points clear of Arsenal and Manchester City.
Absolutely nobody would have predicted that at the start of the season. Unsurprisingly, Postecoglou is getting his fair share of plaudits and is being considered among the best managers in the world.
None of this will have come as a surprise to Celtic fans. They have seen this movie before. Postecoglou had arrived in Glasgow amid similar doubts and went on to win five trophies in his two seasons at Parkhead.
Postecoglou was adored at Celtic and his exit came way too early for many people’s liking. Could a return to Parkhead one day be on the cards?
Ange makes admission about Celtic return
As reported by Football Scotland, Postecoglou said when asked about possible returns to any of his former clubs:
"“I feel like whenever I’ve left, I’ve left on the back of success and I like to leave that memory as it is. I just don’t think there’s any real purpose… I wouldn’t see myself going back anywhere I’ve been but who knows?”"
While Postecoglou did not completely close the door on a return to Celtic, judging by his comments, it is very unlikely. But then, never say never in football.
When Rodgers left the club in the middle of the 2018/19 season to join Leicester City, not many would have expected or wanted to see him back in the hot seat less than five years later. Yet, here we are.
For the time being, there is no point in thinking about the matter. Postecoglou is the manager of Tottenham Hotspur and doing a tremendous job. Rodgers has Celtic sitting atop the Premiership table as well. If the stars align in the future, we might see the Australian back at Parkhead someday. If not, that’s fine.
