It is also sad to see Celtic legends retire from the game but at the end of the day, that is just the nature of football and life. Nobody can continue playing forever, no matter how good they were in their prime. The good thing is that many make a move into management and remain in the game as a result.
Scott Brown is one Celtic icon who decided to call it a day not too long ago. His player-coach spell at Aberdeen proved to be a bit of a nightmare. Stephen Glass was shown the exit door in the middle of the season and he would depart soon afterwards.
Brown would move into management the following season. His first job was with English League One team, Fleetwood Town.
Brown impressed in his debut campaign with the club, as Fleetwood Town improved in the league and had their best FA Cup run ever. But a bad start to the 2023/24 campaign saw the Celtic icon being shown the exit door. He finds himself without a club right now.
Celtic hero eyeing unexpected return from retirement
Broony has been linked with quite a few managerial jobs already. But it looks like a return to the pitch is not completely out of the question either.
As reported by The Scotsman, Brown is feeling out the possibility of a playing return with Scottish League Two side The Spartans. He has joined them in training.
It would come as a surprise to a lot of people if Broony does end up making a return to the pitch. But never say never in football.
It is believed though that his priority remains a future in management. It will be important that he makes smart choices in his selection of teams though. He needs a project where there is a chance of sustainable success.
