The performance would not have pleased a lot of Celtic fans. But they will surely be delighted to get all three points from a game which had looked headed for a draw for quite some time. St Mirren had actually taken the lead, going against all expectations. David Turnbull brought the two teams level but then missed a spot kick to leave it there.

One thing Celtic have lacked all season is the ability to change the game off the bench. In fact, there have been a lot of complaints in recent weeks about the lack of genuine quality when it comes to the substitutes.

One result will not change that. But it does show that there are players on the bench, who can make a difference on their day.

Two of the substitutes combined to produce the winner against St Mirren. It was Oh Hyeon-gyu, who got the late goal. It was his first of the season. On the other hand, Odin Thiago Holm was the man with the assist.

Both those players have come under some criticism in recent times. Oh had not scored a single goal this season till now, even though one has to point out that he has been restricted to making cameos off the bench.

On the other hand, Holm had not played much since picking up that red card against Feyenoord. Both combined brilliantly against St Mirren to make sure that Celtic got all three points on a difficult evening.

Holm found himself with the ball at his feet on the edge of the St Mirren. For a player of his experience and in his position, it would have been understandable if he went for it himself. Instead, he did superbly to slip in Oh, who did not make a mistake and found the back of the net brilliantly.

For the first time in a long time, we also saw the ‘We Never Stop’ mantra at play. Hopefully, this will boost the confidence of both Holm and Oh, and they will go on to make telling contributions from here on forward.
