It wasn’t the result we all wanted when Celtic could only manage a goalless draw against Hibernian at Easter Road at the weekend. It was not the level of performance we had hoped to see either. Chris Sutton has since added his own simple but bleak reflection on the match and the result.

The draw came after a good but hard week with the Hoops picking up a great away win at Tynecastle Park in the Premiership. That was followed by a tough and tiring 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. At times in the two matches, Brendan Rodgers’ side played some of their best football so far this season.

Perhaps then we should have expected a slight dip at the weekend. Tired legs from the players were not a surprise after that week.

The missed passes, lack of pace and any decent tempo was disappointing. But after 10 games in the league, which have included 6 away matches, it is still good form overall.

The result though was still a disappointment. Sutton did not include any Celtic player in his Premiership Team of the Week. A fair but bleak reflection on the match and result. Hibernian’s David Marshall did manage to make it into the XI.

Sutton may well be a Celtic star of the past but he doesn’t hide any criticism of the team when he feels it’s due. He also reflected on the Rangers’ difficult game at Ibrox against Hearts by only selecting one of their players, John Lundstram.

There is a chance for the Celtic players to bounce back quickly on Wednesday night in a rare Scottish Premiership midweek match. It is at home against St Mirren and we will all be hoping for a much better performance and result.
