Celtic made additions in a number of positions over the course of the summer. Maybe even in some where they did not need to. On the other hand, there were other areas of the squad which were confusingly overlooked. And after the first few months of the season, striker has to be considered as one such position.

Kyogo has been doing a fantastic job without a doubt. He has already scored some very important goals and is proving his quality at the Champions League level as well.

But Oh Hyeon-gyu is yet to score this season. The South Korean international had put in some very promising displays towards the end of last season after being signed in January from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

But this season, it feels like he has taken a step back. Of course, he was not helped by the injury he suffered earlier on in the campaign.

Celtic told 22-year-old is not capable and urged to make signing

As reported by Football Scotland, Kenny Miller said while speaking on Superscoreboard:

"“In summer Celtic needed to sign a backup striker.“With Giakoumakis going out the door, Oh is now being given… he had 25 minutes, half an hour with stoppage time on Saturday and he’s just not a capable replacement at this moment in time.“When Kyogo goes off – and there’s talk of the shoulder injury which is going to eventually need looked at or operated on – if he was to be missing that’d be a massive hole in that Celtic team. It’s not just about the goals, it’s how he plays. Oh is a completely different player to Kyogo and he’s the one who’s been replacing him.“Then does Daizen Maeda go through the middle? He’s a different player and then you lose something on the side as to what he brings you!“I think they will look to bring in a backup to Kyogo in January, but it’s a tough window.”"

It might be a bit too early to give up on Oh. As mentioned earlier, he did put in some very good performances towards the end of last season.

Like so many other players, it looks like he is taking some time to come to grips with the change in football following the departure of Ange Postecoglou and the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as his replacement. Also, when talking about the fact that he has not scored this season, one needs to keep in mind that he has not started a single game either and has only made late cameos off the bench.

At the same time, Miller does raise a good point. If Kyogo is absent for any considerable length of time, Celtic might end up struggling. They need another striker capable of scoring goals consistently. At the moment, Oh is not.
