If there is one thing that has become clear over the first few months of this season, it is that Celtic need another consistent goalscorer. Kyogo has continued to deliver the goods, even if at a slightly lower rate than the previous campaign. And Matt O’Riley has added goals to his game as well. Other than that, there has not really been anyone who is finding the back of the net consistently.

Luis Palma has shown the ability, but it is way too early to declare him a consistent source of goals for Celtic. And it remains to be seen if O’Riley can carry this form through the course of the campaign.

The club could certainly do with a striker who is able to take some of the goalscoring load off of Kyogo’s shoulders. And an excellent one might become available as a free agent next summer.

Mehdi Taremi is an Iranian international and has been one of the most underrated strikers in Europe for years now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 31 goals and provided 14 assists in 51 appearances for FC Porto in the 2022/23 campaign.

Taremi has not made the brightest start to this season but there is zero doubt about his ability to score goals. He has proven that at both club and international level.

Taremi’s current deal with FC Porto is set to run out next summer though. And that might be a superb opportunity to sign a proven goalscorer as a free agent.

Of course, considering his record, there is expected to be quite a bit of interest in his signature despite the fact that he will turn 32 years of age next summer. So, let’s see what the future holds. Taremi would be a great signing for Celtic though.
