It’s inevitable that when Celtic players shine in European matches they will attract interest from other clubs. That’s certainly the case after the Hoops’ great performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek. One star is shining particularly brightly this season though and seems to be drawing interest from the Premier League.
There were several contenders for man of the match on Wednesday but few would argue with that being Matt O’Riley. His all-round play was terrific but his interplay with Kyogo Furuhashi to slide in a magnificent pass for the first goal will have caught the attention of many clubs.
O’Riley has been on top form recently, adding goals to his already high-level game in a string of excellent performances. He has definitely developed since last season and is flourishing now under the management of Brendan Rodgers.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Brentford are considering testing Celtic’s resolve over O’Riley in January. The Scottish champions are braced for a big bid.
Brentford could make a significant bid for Celtic player in January
Brentford have a strong Danish presence at the club. Their manager is Thomas Frank, the captain is Mathias Jensen and there are several other players. The Premier League and that connection could well be very attractive to O’Riley.
On the other hand, his talent is such that he will likely be looked at by bigger clubs with all due respect to Brentford. They have been very good in the Premier League themselves.
He has of course just signed a new contract with Celtic running through to the summer of 2027. And it could take a Scottish record fee for him to leave Parkhead in the future. It is hard to imagine that the club would let him depart in the January transfer window, even if a big offer was put on the table.
