Fraser Forster had an interesting Celtic career to say the very least. He joined the club on loan from Newcastle United and after a couple of years in Glasgow on a temporary basis, he made the move permanent in 2012. He would go on to stay another two years at Parkhead before joining Southampton. He would return for another season-long loan spell a few years back.

Celtic were actually believed to be interested in signing him on a permanent basis in the summer of 2020 after his successful loan spell from Southampton. But if rumours were accurate then it was the player who decided to return to the English club.

Forster’s career has certainly been eventful since then. He is 35 years of age now and finds himself at Tottenham Hotspur as a cover goalkeeper.

Even though Forster might not have returned to Celtic in 2020, it is clear that he has fond memories from his time at the club. As reported by Tottenham Hotspur’s official website, when asked about his favourite thing about his career so far, the English goalkeeper said:

"“Probably representing England is the highlight but I also enjoyed playing Champions League football when I was at Celtic.”"

Forster has certainly played at a high level throughout the course of his career. But Champions League nights at Celtic are certainly special.

That being said, if he had returned to Celtic in 2020, he might very well have been part of many more such nights. The Hoops played Real Madrid last season and drew 2-2 with Atletico Madrid very recently. If Forster had rejoined, he might have had Joe Hart’s role right now.

It is what it is though. It was the choice that he made and Forster spent five very good seasons at Celtic Park. We can only thank him for that, as well as some of his incredible performances. The ones against FC Barcelona and in the Scottish League Cup final against the Rangers in 2019 come to mind immediately.
