Fabrizio Romano makes Matt O’Riley Celtic exit claim
There are some Celtic players who have taken a step back following the departure of Ange Postecoglou. On the other hand, there are others who are thriving since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers. Matt O’Riley is someone who falls under the latter category. That is not to say that he was not playing well under the management of the Australian. But he has clearly taken several steps forward this season.
O’Riley has been Celtic’s best player this season so far and by some distance. He is having a remarkable individual campaign at the moment.
O’Riley has certainly improved in front of the net this time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists this season till now.
Just for comparison, he had scored 4 goals in the entirety of the previous campaign. Naturally, he is being linked with a move away from Parkhead in the near future. It will take a blockbuster transfer fee to make that happen though.
Fabrizio makes record-breaking O’Riley Celtic exit claim
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Celtic are in a strong position as they just renewed O’Riley’s contract one month ago. It would have to be a Scottish record transfer fee for any club interested in the youngster.
O’Riley has been making his presence felt under the bright lights as well. He won the Man of the Match award in Celtic’s recent 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at Parkhead. That performance would have certainly caught the eye of many.
Jota and Kieran Tierney’s £25 million exits are currently tied for the Scottish transfer exit record. Of course, no Celtic fan would want to see O’Riley leave the club any time soon. But at the same time, that is just the reality of life at Parkhead. Once a player starts performing at that level, his exit becomes almost inevitable. Let’s see what the future holds.
