Celtic fans might have been left disappointed to not come out with a win against Atletico Madrid but looking back, it was a good result for the Scottish champions. Diego Simeone’s side were on top form coming into the match and had been on a six-game winning run. That included victories over Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Feyenoord.

So, it goes without saying that Celtic were facing a tough task and they dealt with it quite well, all things considered. The Hoops scored two world-class goals and with a bit more luck, could have easily come out of the game with all three points.

But then, Atletico Madrid were clearly the better team in the second half. So, a 2-2 draw was mostly probably a fair result.

One man who did not seem impressed after the game though is Simeone. The Atletico Madrid manager barely shook Brendan Rodgers’ hand when the Northern Irishman offered it to the Argentine boss.

Simeone criticised for his actions against Celtic

Celtic fans were clearly not impressed with Simeone’s actions. They heavily criticised him in the aftermath of the game.

Then, one perhaps can understand Simeone’s frustration at having seen his team draw despite having the much better second half and Rodrigo De Paul was sent off late in the game as well. But despite all that, he should have shaken Rodgers’ hand properly when the game was over.

It is what it is though. Rodgers won’t be losing any sleep over it. And one has to think that the Northern Irishman would have been pleased with Celtic’s performance on the day against one of the best teams in Europe right now.

To be honest, they should have won the game against Lazio and could have taken something from their away trip to Feyenoord as well, if not for the avoidable mistakes. This team certainly does seem to be improving every match.
