Ryan Christie was a part of the Celtic team that won the Quadruple Treble and had established himself as a regular starter at Parkhead before leaving in the summer of 2021. The Scottish international would join Bournemouth, then in the Championship, and the move was criticised as a step back.

Bournemouth have since been promoted to the Premier League and Christie is playing regular football in the English top flight. His current deal with the Cherries runs out next summer though.

Amidst all this, there have been rumours of a potential return to Celtic. It was under the management of Brendan Rodgers that he first broke into the first-team picture at Parkhead. Could he reunite with the manager in the future?

Judging from some of Christie’s recent comments, it does not feel like he is looking to leave Bournemouth at the moment and seems to be hoping for an extension. As reported by the Daily Echo, he said:

"“No discussions yet, but I’m more than happy (here).“Especially with the baby now, I love living in Bournemouth. It’s a great place to stay and my family is nice and settled as well.“My main hope is to impress the new boss as much as I can. If that leads to talks about a new contract, so be it.“I’ll be looking forward to that hopefully.”"

Christie has been a regular for Bournemouth in recent times. As a result, it would be a major surprise if he is not offered a contract extension by the Premier League club.

On the other hand, one has to wonder whether signing Christie would be the right decision on the part of Celtic at this point in time. They have Matt O’Riley already, who is playing some of the best football of his career right now and seems to be only getting better. Would the Scottish international start ahead of him?

All things considered, it feels pretty unlikely that Christie would make a return to Celtic Park anytime in the near future. Of course, never say never in football. And if O’Riley was to leave, the Scottish international would be a pretty good replacement for him.
