Celtic continued to make additions to their squad this summer with Brendan Rodgers replacing Ange Postecoglou in the Parkhead hot seat. A lot of fans might not have been impressed with the signings but the fact of the matter is that nine new faces arrived at the club, seven on a permanent basis and two on loan deals.
One of the permanent signings the club made was bringing in Yang Hyun-jun from Gangwon FC. The transfer fee was believed to be around £2 million.
There were some doubts as to whether Yang would join Celtic, but the move did end up materialising. Since then, the South Korean has played a decent bit of football and shown flashes of his quality, but he is yet to show enough to warrant a regular place in the starting XI.
As reported by BBC Sportsound (via TBR Football), Pat Bonner said about Yang:
"“I’ve still got my doubts about Yang. I’ve seen him quite a bit now. I know he needs to get a run and a real run, but how are you gonna get a run in the team?“You’ve got to make an impact when you come on the pitch. You’ve got to the manager I want to be in that starting lineup, not coming off the bench, but starting from the front because I can make a difference when I’m on.“And I just haven’t quite seen that yet from him.”"
Celtic hero doubts £2 million summer signing’s quality
It is way too early to make a judgement on Yang. But he certainly needs to increase his output if he wants to get a real run in Rodgers’ starting XI.
Yang is yet to score for Celtic and has provided a solitary assist. On the contrary, Luis Palma has shown quite a bit of quality in the games that he has played till now and has moved ahead of the South Korean winger in the pecking order. The 21-year-old’s playing time is expected to decrease further when Liel Abada returns to fitness.
It is very difficult to get a run of games at Celtic. But at the same time, one only needs to look towards Liam Scales for inspiration. He had looked completely out of the picture at Parkhead but has to be considered a regular starter now after a string of impressive displays.
