Celtic need to strengthen in some positions across the pitch. One of them is certainly goalkeeper. Joe Hart has been the number one since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021. But he was always viewed as a short-term solution. The Englishman is now 36 years of age and there have been questions asked about his recent performances. So, sooner or later, the Hoops will have to find a replacement for him.

There have been rumours that Celtic are open to the idea of handing Hart a contract extension. His current deal runs out at the end of this season.

But on the other hand, Celtic have also been linked with Andriy Lunin. He is currently the cover goalkeeper at Real Madrid.

Lunin has been stuck playing that role for quite some time though. When Thibaut Courtois suffered a long-term injury earlier in the season, the club chose to go out and sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan rather than giving the 24-year-old an extended run as the first-choice. Thus, the writing seems to be on the wall for him.

Celtic are rumoured to be one of the clubs interested in signing Lunin. And they appear to have been handed a boost in the race to sign him.

As reported by Todo Fichajes (via Glasgow World), Lunin is edging towards the Real Madrid exit door. He will likely turn down a contract renewal offer even if Los Blancos were to table him one.

Of course, if Lunin did become available as a free agent next summer, then there are expected to be a lot of clubs in the race to sign him. Celtic could try to get ahead of the competition and try to bring him to Parkhead in January for a bargain transfer fee.
