Transfer rumours always continue to swirl around Celtic. That is just the nature of the rumour mill. The Hoops have been pretty active when it comes to adding to their squad as well. They brought in nine new players in the summer. Seven of them were signed on a permanent basis while two arrived on loan deals.
The club are expected to continue strengthening Brendan Rodgers’ squad in upcoming transfer windows as well. And one player they have been linked with recently is Ryan Christie.
Of course, Christie was at Celtic for several years and played a key part in their Quadruple Treble-winning team. He would leave in the summer of 2021 in order to join Bournemouth.
The Cherries were in the Championship at that point in time but have since earned promotion to the Premier League. Christie is playing regular football in the English top flight right now but his current deal runs out in the summer of 2024. And that has seen him being linked with a return to Celtic Park.
Celtic should not bring back former player despite rumours
Christie is a decent player without a doubt. But is he better than someone like Matt O’Riley on current form? It does not feel like so.
Also, the experience of playing in the Premier League certainly would have helped Christie grow as a player. But his numbers in the English top flight are not great to be very honest.
He scored one goal in the Premier League last season. And he is yet to open his scoring this time around.
There are serious doubts over whether Christie would start in this current Celtic team. That being said, the situation could change. If O’Riley were to leave in the near future, the Bournemouth midfielder would be a decent replacement for the Danish youth international.
