Celtic open unexpected contract talks with another player
Celtic find themselves in a very interesting position right now. The club have a young core but there are some areas of the pitch which is in clear need of reinforcements. It remains to be seen if the required additions are made in upcoming transfer windows. News of contract talks being opened with a veteran will come as a surprise to many though.
There were suggestions that Celtic were looking to sign a goalkeeper in the summer. They were heavily linked with Croatian international number one, Dominik Livakovic, but a move did not end up materialising.
They have since been linked with Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid and Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool as well. But it looks like Joe Hart’s time at the club could be extended too.
Hart is in the final year of his contract with Celtic and will be 37 by the time this season is over. As a result, the expectation was that this would be his last campaign at Parkhead. But now, it looks like that might not be the case after all.
Celtic open unexpected contract talks with another player
As reported by Football Insider, Hart and Celtic are in talks over a potential new contract. The Englishman is in discussions to extend his stay at Parkhead despite Brendan Rodgers’ willingness to add a new goalkeeper to his squad.
Of course, many fans would view this as a negative update as most want to see a new goalkeeper between the posts come next season. That being said, Hart signing a new deal would not automatically rule out the possibility of making an addition in that position.
In fact, working with Hart could help young players like Lunin and Kelleher improve their games, if either was signed. Of course, it remains to be seen if a contract extension is agreed with the 36-year-old.
