Celtic have been linked with quite a few players in recent times although we are still months away from the opening of the January transfer window. The club have done their business early in recent years though and could we see them continue on that same path even though Ange Postecoglou is no longer the manager? Time shall tell.

One of the most exciting names that Celtic have been linked with lately is Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin. The goalkeeper’s current contract is set to run out next summer.

Celtic’s need for a long-term solution in goal is no secret. In fact, it has been there for a long time. Joe Hart might have been the number one for more than two years now, but he has always been viewed as a short to medium-term fix.

Lunin is 24 years of age and has been considered one of the brightest young goalkeepers in Europe for a while. But he has never really gotten a chance to showcase that at Real Madrid. Could a move to Celtic lie in his future?

Celtic fans would have been hoping for Lunin to be available for a bargain transfer fee in January. But it looks like that is not the case after all.

As reported by Fichajes (via Daily Record), a bumper fee may be needed to sign Lunin in January. Real Madrid want a €15 million (£13 million) transfer fee for the goalkeeper.

That is a significant figure and would require Celtic to break their transfer record. Of course, they have the option of waiting till the summer and hope to sign Lunin as a free agent then, as it feels very unlikely that his stay at Santiago Bernabeu would be extended. Let’s see what the future holds.
