Celtic were pretty active in the recent summer transfer window, signing nine players in total. The additions did not leave many of the supporters impressed though. With Champions League football guaranteed, the hope was that experienced and established players would be brought in. Instead, the Hoops stuck to bringing in youngsters with high potential for the future.

The most high-profile signing that Celtic made in the summer was that of Nat Phillips. And even he was brought in on a half-season loan, largely due to the several injuries at centre-back.

It remains to be seen if the club do choose to move away from their transfer policy in the future and show some flexibility. They do seem to have another youngster in their sights, although his addition would be a high-profile one as he plays for Real Madrid.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are considering a move for Andriy Lunin. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is one of several shot-stoppers that the Hoops’ scouting team are watching and doing analysis on.

Lunin has been one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in the world for a while but he has not gotten enough chances to show what he is capable of. That is understandable considering that he has had Thibaut Courtois ahead of him in the pecking order.

When Courtois picked up a long-term injury earlier, Real Madrid did not go ahead with Lunin as number one though. Instead, they signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea.

The writing seems to be on the wall for Lunin. His current deal with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the season and it is unlikely that he will extend his stay at Santiago Bernabeu. Could Celtic sign him as a free agent?
