Celtic have stuck to signing youngsters in recent times and while the strategy has not gone down too well with a large section of the fanbase, one cannot argue with the success that they have had. The likes of Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and several others would have been considered as ‘project’ signings at the point that they were brought in and it is safe to say that things turned out quite well for them at Parkhead.

That being said, there are some areas where they do need to make sure that they bring players in who are ready to start immediately. One of them is at goalkeeper.

Joe Hart is in the final year of his contract and it feels unlikely that he will be handed a new deal. The Englishman will be 37 years of age by the time next season comes around. Also, there have been plenty of questions about his recent performances.

Celtic were expected to sign a goalkeeper this summer itself but did not end up doing so. Could they add an option between the posts in January?

Several outlets have linked Celtic with a potential move for Andriy Lunin recently. In fact, there have been suggestions that the club could end up making a move for him in January itself.

Lunin is in the final year of his contract. He was signed by Real Madrid for a transfer package believed to be around £12 million but has never been able to establish himself in the first-team. That is understandable considering they have had arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in their ranks in the form of Thibaut Courtois since 2018.

That being said, Lunin needs to be playing regular football and is expected to leave soon. He is scheduled to become a free agent next summer. But Celtic could try to get ahead of the competition and sign him in January itself.
