It is safe to say that Ange Postecoglou was beloved during his time as manager of Celtic. He arrived as a bit of an unknown to the European football fan and with very few expectations surrounding him. There were many Rangers supporters who felt that he would be gone by Christmas.
Postecoglou exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic of Celtic fans. The general feeling was that it would take a two-three year rebuild for the Hoops to get back to challenging for the league after the 2020/21 campaign and the departure of players like Scott Brown, Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and more in the same summer window.
Instead, they ended up winning the Premiership and League Cup double in Postecoglou’s debut campaign. They went a step further the next time around, winning the treble.
Postecoglou’s run at Celtic Park would end after that though, as he left for Tottenham Hotspur merely days after winning the trouble. In his two years at the club, he won five trophies and it finally established himself as a prominent manager in the European game. It is safe to say that the Australian has fond memories.
Postecoglou makes emotional admission about Celtic fans
Postecoglou sent an emotional message to the Celtic fans. As reported by the Daily Record, he said while talking with Four Four Two magazine:
"“It means everything because even in the tough beginning the fans were the ones who stuck by us and by me personally. The only way you can repay that is to give them great memories, an experience that will stay with them.“It was an unbelievable two years for me – I loved being manager of that club.”"
Postecoglou has been doing a spectacular job at Tottenham Hotspur as well. Once again, his arrival was surrounded by doubts and criticism. Many questioned whether the Australian could perform at the Premier League level. On top of that, Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich in the summer.
That has not stopped Postecoglou from showing his quality and establishing himself as one of the top managers in football. Tottenham Hotspur currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, once again, exceeding the expectations of even the most optimistic of fans.
