Todd Cantwell has certainly had an interesting time since arriving at Ibrox. He was hailed as a brilliant signing by their fans and was considered by them as one of the best players in Scotland not too long ago. But as the months have progressed and Celtic have continued to dominate Scottish football, it looks like the ‘new signing’ shine has faded away and he has had to face some criticism lately.

It is only recently that the Rangers appointed Philippe Clement as their new manager, replacing Michael Beale. The Englishman was shown the Ibrox exit door after a bad start to the campaign this time around.

It will be interesting to see if Cantwell features as heavily Clement’s plans as he did in that of Beale. Time shall tell.

Cantwell is currently out injured and he used his time off to appear on a podcast. As reported by Glasgow Live, the Rangers player said in an appearance on the Beautiful Game podcast:

"“I find it very bizarre. I’ll be completely honest, my stance on it is clear. You have pundits and ex footballers and their life is completely different because they don’t have the opportunity to play football anymore.“I can’t speak about what it’s like to be an ex footballer because I’m obviously still a current footballer. There’s one thing I can’t understand when it comes to pundits who used to play football which is jumping on players or what I would call what Chris Sutton does is being an attention seeker.”"

Rangers’ Cantwell takes needless dig at Celtic legend Sutton

It is worth pointing out that Cantwell and Sutton have had a few exchanges on social media in the past as well. And it looks like things have not been left in the past. The two do share a bit of a connection, having both represented Norwich City.

One would expect Sutton to have a say on Cantwell’s comments sooner or later. The former Celtic player does have a penchant for having the last laugh in these matters for often than not, as he did recently when it came to Beale’s run at Ibrox.

It goes without saying which side Celtic fans will be taking on the matter. And considering Cantwell’s output this season till now, one would think that he has bigger things to worry about at the moment than Sutton.
