It is that time of the year again when there is a new manager in the Rangers’ dugout. We have seen the same story time after time. In fact, Philippe Clement is their fourth manager in the space of less than two years. That is not a recipe for stability or success. And in the long-term, it is great news for Celtic.

It is safe to say that Celtic have been the dominant team in Scottish football for quite some time now. It is Clement who is the latest Rangers manager to be tasked with ending the Hoops’ run as the best in Scotland.

Other than the 2020/21 campaign, Celtic have been pretty much flawless for more than a decade. On the other hand, the Rangers have looked for one solution after another to no avail.

Like every previous time, Clement arrives amid a lot of expectations. And he has undeniable pedigree, from his time winning three straight league titles in Belgium. Is the man to solve the Celtic puzzle though?

Bill Leckie wrote in The Scottish Sun:

"That takes us to a Belgian who some directors clearly had doubts about. There’s no obvious plan, no pattern, no thought of how to create long-term progress."

To be honest, the Rangers have struggled to create any long-term success at Ibrox. It had looked like they were beginning a successful era when Steven Gerrard was able to guide them to the league title a couple of years back. But it was back to square one the very next season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst lasted just a year at Ibrox despite winning the Scottish Cup and guiding the Rangers to an unlikely Europa League final. Michael Beale finished trophyless and was there for around ten months.

Thus, it is only natural to wonder how long Clement will get at Ibrox to get things right. Winning is the only thing that matters in Glasgow. And not every manager can thrive under those circumstances.

The fear for the Rangers is obvious. They have gotten way too many appointments wrong and cannot really afford to continue doing that.
