International breaks can often get boring for football fans but this one has had quite a bit to write home about. Of course, most of the headlines have been grabbed by the Rangers’ appointment of Philippe Clement as their manager. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers now has a new Ibrox challenge to face, having passed all the previous ones with flying colours.

On the other hand, it has been a memorable international break for some Celtic players in particular. One of them has to be Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Lagerbielke was signed by Celtic in the summer from IF Elfsborg. He got into the starting XI from the get-go as a result of several centre-backs being out injured.

Lagerbielke recently appeared for the Swedish national team as well, scoring his first international goal against Moldova in his side’s 3-1 win. It goes without saying that it was a memorable day for the centre-back and an experience that should make him a better player.

Lagerbielke took to Instagram after getting his first goal for Sweden. It was accompanied by the caption: “Win and first goal in the national team shirt.”

Tottenham Hotspur player and Swedish international, Dejan Kulusevski, commented with the applaud emoji on the post. Luis Palma left a comment as well while several Celtic players liked it.

Lagerbielke is one of the players who has done well when given a chance this season. The red card against Feyenoord was a rare mistake on his part. Overall, he has been solid.

Interestingly, Lagerbielke was left out of the matchday squad altogether in Celtic’s last game before the international break, against Kilmarnock. It will be interesting to see if he gets starting minutes consistently when all or most of the centre-backs are back from injury and available for selection. Let’s see what the future holds.
