Michael Beale arrived at Ibrox amid a lot of hype surrounding him. He was believed to be the mastermind behind their Premiership triumph in 2021 when he was a part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching team. The Englishman left his role at QPR to take the Rangers job and was viewed by a lot of their fans as the one to end Celtic’s never-ending run at the top of Scottish football.

Reality has proven to be quite different to their expectations. Beale did not even last a year in the Ibrox hot seat and was shown the exit door earlier this month.

It looks like the Rangers are closing in on their next appointment. Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement appear to be in the running for the Ibrox job.

One man who did have a few words with Beale during his time as the Rangers’ manager is Chris Sutton. And the Celtic legend took this opportunity to have one last dig at the former QPR boss.

Sutton wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"Perhaps Rodgers would have been quite happy for Michael Beale to stay in charge because that particular Ibrox project was going absolutely nowhere."

Beale’s time at Ibrox was not a success by any stretch of the imagination. Overall, he did have a pretty solid record and has one of the best winning percentages for a manager in the Rangers’ history.

But those wins led the club pretty much nowhere. His team finished trophyless last season. And Beale’s record in the Glasgow Derby was not much to write home about either.

Beale was able to win one Glasgow Derby during his run at Ibrox. Even that was a game where nothing was riding on the result as Celtic had already won the league and were missing some key players as well.

All eyes will now be on the next manager of the Rangers. Brendan Rodgers has a great record when it comes to outlasting them.
