Rangers are still to appoint a new manager after Michael Beale was shown the exit door earlier in the month. The Ibrox club certainly seem to be taking their time as they know that they need to get this appointment right. As things stand, Celtic are seven points ahead in the league title race already and are only getting better.
Several names have been linked with the Ibrox job lately. The likes of Frank Lampard, Graham Potter, Neil Warnock and more, no longer seem to be in the running though.
Instead, it looks like it could come down to two managers. Kevin Muscat has emerged as the bookies’ favourite to replace Beale in the Ibrox hot seat.
The other name also in the running is Philippe Clement. The manager was shown the exit door by AS Monaco in the summer but had enjoyed a lot of success in Belgium before that.
Rangers could copy Celtic as new favourite emerges for Ibrox job
It is hard not to draw similarities between Muscat and Ange Postecoglou. The Hoops had appointed the Australian in the summer of 2021 and he went on to enjoy two superb years at Parkhead, before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur, who he has sitting at the top of the Premier League table right now.
Muscat’s journey in management seems pretty similar to that of Postecoglou. In fact, the former was the assistant manager to the latter at Melbourne Victory.
When Postecoglou left, Muscat got the job at Melbourne Victory. He also replaced him at Yokohama F. Marinos, when he joined Celtic.
Thus, if the Rangers do end up appointing Muscat, it would be very similar to Celtic’s move for Postecoglou. But at the same time, every manager is different and there is no guarantee that the 50-year-old would be a success in the Scottish Premiership.
