Celtic have been very active in recent times, both when it comes to signing new players and handing extensions to those who are already at the club. They made nine additions to Brendan Rodgers’ squad over the summer even though the fans might not have been pleased with the decision to not bring in any experience.

On the other hand, players like Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and more have agreed contract extensions with the club recently. And it is not just the senior team that the Hoops are looking at.

One complaint that many fans have had about the club in recent times is their inability to bring through their youth players and promote them to the senior team. The only one who is a regular starter for Celtic right now is Callum McGregor. Other than that, there are the likes of Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston with roles in the squad.

Celtic have not been helped by the fact that many highly-rated youngsters have left before ever making an impact at the senior level. And it looks like they are trying to put that right.

Celtic reportedly agree three-year deal with midfielder

As reported by the Daily Record, Jacob Donnelly has signed a pre-contract with Celtic ahead of signing a long-term professional deal. It will see the young midfielder sign a three-year deal.

The player was believed to have been drawing a lot of interest from clubs down south. So this is certainly a step in the right direction for the Hoops.

Hopefully, Donnelly can have a long and successful career at Parkhead. One has to question the club’s strategy when it comes to promoting youngsters though. Rocco Vata, for example, has been exceptional for the B Team but is not getting any chances in Rodgers’ side.
