Celtic fans were left somewhat disappointed with how the summer transfer window turned out for the club. They did make nine additions, seven on a permanent basis and two on loan deals. But they were not the established and experienced names to make an impact on the Champions League that the supporters had been hoping for.

Celtic are expected to make more additions in January. It does look like they will stick to their transfer strategy though, going after highly-rated youngsters from around the world.

Celtic have signed three players from South Korea this year. They are Oh Hyeon-gyu, Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hweok-kyu.

Oh and Yang have been involved but cannot be considered starters. On the other hand, we have yet to see Kwon play a single minute of football for the Hoops since arriving in the summer. Thus, results have been mixed at best but it looks like Celtic are looking to sign another South Korean player soon.

Celtic eyeing move for South Korean defensive midfielder in January

Defensive midfield is an area where the club have struggled to find a solution in recent years. And as reported by FOOTBALLiST (via The Scottish Sun), Celtic have been monitoring Gwangju FC’s Jung Ho-Yeon.

Jung is 23 years of age and he currently plays for Gwangju in the South Korean top flight. He is a defensive midfielder and has been a regular in the middle of the park for his team.

Jung has also represented South Korea at the youth level. But he has yet to make his full international debut.

It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Jung in January or not. He seems to be a good young talent but at the same time, one cannot help but question whether this is the right transfer strategy on the part of the Scottish champions. It is always about finding the right balance between youth and experience, and at the moment, the Hoops do not appear to be even trying to do that.
