Celtic make announcement about Atletico Madrid game
Celtic have not made the start to their Champions League campaign that they would have been hoping for. They find themselves sitting at the bottom of their group, after the first two games and have tougher tests ahead. To be fair, the performances have not been bad but the results certainly have not gone in favour of Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Their Champions League group opener was an away trip to De Kuip to take on Feyenoord. The Hoops did very well in the first half before conceding an avoidable goal from a free-kick right before the break. Any chance they might have had of mounting a comeback in the second 45 minutes vanished as both Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm were sent off.
Following the 2-0 loss to Feyenoord, Celtic would have been hoping to turn things around against Lazio. They did start very well and Kyogo gave them an early lead. But then, it was the same old story for the Hoops in Europe. They dominated the game but could not finish it off, and ultimately, the Italian side walked out with a 2-1 come from behind victory.
Their next game in the Champions League is at home against Atletico Madrid. Then they will take on Diego Simeone’s side away in the Spanish capital early next month.
Celtic make announcement about Atletico Madrid game
As tweeted out by Celtic FC Tickets:
Celtic will certainly need to get something out of these two games against Atletico Madrid, if they are to have any hope of not finishing bottom of the group. Easier said than done of course.
Atletico Madrid are on a great run of form right now, having won five straight. That includes victories over teams like Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Feyenoord. That will not give Celtic fans much hope ahead of their two meetings.
