Clear favourite emerges for Rangers job as Celtic watch on
Most Celtic fans will naturally have some level of interest in who the Rangers end up appointing as their next manager. Their previous two arrived amid a lot of expectations but failed to deal with the challenge presented by the Hoops. Giovanni van Bronckhorst was in the hot seat for just a year while Michael Beale was shown the exit door by ten months.
Steven Gerrard might have won the league title with the Rangers, but his stint at Ibrox was not a great success either. He managed just one trophy in his three-plus years in Glasgow.
It remains to be seen who the next manager will be to take on the Rangers job and try to challenge Celtic for the league. But a clear favourite has now emerged to fill the Ibrox vacancy.
Philippe Clement is now the bookies’ odds-on favourite to get the Rangers job. He has managed teams like AS Monaco, Genk and Club Brugge in the past.

Clement was a great success in Belgium as a manager, winning multiple league titles. His run at AS Monaco was not as impressive though and the club parted ways with him after a year-and-a-half.
If Clement does end up in the Ibrox hot seat, it would be interesting to see how he would deal with the challenge presented by Celtic. The Hoops are already seven points clear at the top of the Premiership table.
Clement does have a big reputation but then, so did Van Bronckhorst. And we know how that turned out.
Of course, the Rangers have not made an appointment yet and things can change quickly in football. But whoever it is that does get the Ibrox job will have a mountain to climb to get them back in the league title race.
