Kris Boyd can usually be counted on for some eyebrow-raising comments, especially when talking about Celtic or trying to debate with Chris Sutton. What’s unusual though is that the former Rangers player has actually made a very good comparison when talking about the two Glasgow giants recently.

Clearly, it has been a disappointing start to the season for Boyd and other Rangers supporters. Celtic have already opened up a seven-point lead in the league. The Ibrox club have already lost three Premiership matches this early in the season and their loss to Aris Limassol in midweek in the Europa League was another low point.

Boyd was reflecting on all that when he made a great point, one that most Celtic fans know well, the difference in the two clubs’ dealings on the transfer activity. With most of the Rangers’ summer signings looking less than impressive, the spotlight was back on the Hoops and their approach.

As reported by TBR Football, Boyd said on Sky Sports:

"“There’s some of them that have been there for a long time and others that have been there far too long.“I look at Celtic, for example, Jeremie Frimpong, if you compare him to James Tavernier, he came in for £300k, sold for £10m plus add-ons and will probably move again to bank Celtic more money.“Josip Juranovic, £2.5-£3m, comes in, Celtic sell him for £7-£7.5m. Bank that money. Buy Alistair Johnston, £4m and they’ve probably got another £10m player on their books as well.“Celtic bring players in, they win things, every single one of them has won more than James Tavernier as well.“They win things, they move them on.”"

Rangers have seen fees for players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos vanish through bad contract management, as their deals have run out and they have left as free agents. On the other hand, the Hoops have proven successful at bringing in transfer fees for players moving on as Jota, Josip Juranovic and several other deals have shown over recent years.

Rangers Hall of Fame captain James Tavernier may have a good record at goal contributions, but his trophy haul falls well behind most Celtic players. The right-back has had far more managers than titles at Ibrox.

Alistair Johnston, signed in January of this year, has won more top-flight silverware in Scotland than Tavernier. The Rangers captain arrived in 2015. Of course, Celtic fans would not have expected Boyd to have made that admission.
