£15 million Celtic player tipped to stay despite exit rumours
Celtic have a number of very talented players on their roster and the club have done a very good job when it comes to agreeing contract extensions with them recently. While Jota and Carl Starfelt did leave over the summer, the remaining core of the squad has stayed put and some have even improved under the management of Brendan Rodgers.
Nobody seems to have been boosted more by the arrival of Rodgers than Matt O’Riley. To be fair to the Danish youth international, he was very good over his first season and a half with the Hoops as well.
But he has taken his game to a new level this season with Rodgers in the managerial hot seat. The youngster has added goals to his game and his overall play seems to have improved as well. On current form, he is the best player in the Premiership and by some distance.
Of course, his top form has also led to speculation over O’Riley’s future despite the fact that he signed a contract extension just recently. But he has been tipped by a journalist to stay on.
£15 million Celtic player tipped to stay despite exit rumours
As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones said about O’Riley:
"“I don’t see any way he would be willing to leave Celtic. He’s absolutely loving being part of the place. He’s a hugely influential figure for them right now and for where they’re heading. I think that he’s enjoying this platform of being part of something. It’s what he’s craved for since he was a kid. Coming through at Fulham, he was talked about as the next big thing to break through but never quite got his opportunity. So, he started to make moves and spent some time at MK Dons.”"
Celtic fans would be hoping that O’Riley remains at Celtic Park for the foreseeable future. He has proven to be one of the best signings that the club have made in recent times.
He was signed from MK Dons in January of 2022 for a transfer fee believed to be around £1.5 million. That has proven to be a masterstroke and then some.
There were suggestions that Leeds United failed with a late £10 million bid for O’Riley in the summer. And after his recent form, his transfer value must have skyrocketed further since then. Expect to see more offers come in in the future.
