Brendan Rodgers has already outlasted one Rangers manager since returning to Celtic earlier in the summer. Michael Beale was shown the exit door following their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Aberdeen, which saw the side fall seven points behind the Hoops in the league. It remains to be seen who ends up taking the Ibrox hot seat next.

A lot of names have been doing the rounds of the rumour mill lately. Frank Lampard, Kevin Muscat, Graham Potter, Neil Warnock, Kjetil Knutsen and several others are rumoured to be potential candidates for the Rangers job.

The answer could be closer to home though. In fact, Rodgers has given his take on the matter and believes one Premiership manager should be in contention for the Rangers job. That is none other than current Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes.

As reported by Glasgow Times, when asked if McInness should be considered for the job, Rodgers said:

"“I have said it before – I think he is someone who I am sure would be in contention for the position.“He has history there at the club, but also he has experience and qualities as a manager.”"

Of course, McInnes already has a history with the Rangers. He played for the Ibrox club for several years.

McInnes is also a veteran in the Scottish game. Not only did he play for several clubs, but has managed quite a few as well.

McInnes started managing St Johnstone in 2007 and was there until 2011. He would then move down south for a spell at Bristol City. He returned to Scotland in 2013 and had an 8-year run with Aberdeen. That is not easy to do when you consider the constant managerial merry-go-round in the Scottish Premiership. And he currently finds himself at Kilmarnock.

That being said, it is hard to imagine that McInnes would be the one to be handed the Rangers job. The Ibrox fans will be looking for a big-name appointment, after the disappointing runs of Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
